How to spend a weekend in Miami

WHERE TO STAY: Dream Hotel

This hotel is breathtaking. Their modern decor throughout the boutique style luxury hotel will have you in awe, you’ll be greeted at check-in with a glass of champagne but that’s not the best part, the rooftop pool & bar are really quite the dream. It has large cabana beds, lounge chairs, a great view and a small bar centered perfectly in between it all. This is a great place to stay while you’re exploring Miami Beach.

This city holds so many treasures and sometimes I don’t even want to call it a city, it’s more of a small tropical island of its own. Just walking down Ocean drive you can hear accents from all over the world and the natives of Miami come from all over the Caribbean and South America. When I head to Miami every few months, I have one thing on my mind….BEACH. South beach is of course very popular and always a good time. I like to park near Ocean and 14th, grab a cold Fat Tuesday drink and lay out. I like South Beach because it’s near all the best food and good shopping in Miami as well. If you walk over just 2 blocks you’ll find Washington Ave. Washington has all of the stores you could think of; BCBG, STEVE MADDEN, ARMANI, etc. If you’re walking and want to explore the side streets, you’ll find something I admire a little more, amazing little boutiques. Each with their own character and charm but Washington Ave is not the only area for good shopping in Miami Beach, not even 5 minutes away, you’ll find Lincoln Road. This strip has a plethora of stores and boutiques, outdoor restaurant seating, music, and if you’re lucky you’ll catch it on a day they’re having a flea market or outdoor & collectible sale! THE BEST.

Now you’ve been shopping for a while and you’re hungry, if you’re anything like me you look forward to the new restaurants and food you get to try on a trip. Go to Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. Southern style cooking, modern décor, amazing cocktails, perfect location, it doesn’t get any better than this for lunch in Miami Beach. I ordered Mama’s Chicken Biscuits, The Crunchy Yardbird Sandwich and a Big Ol’ Cheddar Waffle with a side of the MOST AMAZING MAC AND CHEESE THAT HAS EVER TOUCHED MY LIPS (to say the least). My entire experience was great and I will be eating here each time I’m in this paradise of a city. Awarded for being the “best new restaurant” in 2012, this is a must eat when in Miami!

Finally, I get to talk about the cluster of amazing graffiti, murals and artwork that is Wynwood Art District. This art district spans a few miles and is an outdoor art museum. With large, modern, abstract murals all over the walls of the restaurants and businesses, you really will not stop finding a new piece you love as you explore. There are several trails that you can walk through with open areas for a quick picnic, but if you really want to enjoy it stop at one of the small restaurants and grab a quick bite. Your best pictures will come from you exploring Wynwood so make sure your camera is fully charged and ready to go! I love to see the work of local artists all over the walls and even poet R.M.Drake! I can read excerpts of his pieces and quotes by him all day. Beauitful! Don’t pass Wynwood up, it is to remarkable not to see.
